From 11-17 Mar 18 (including travel), 19 (9M and 10F) Sea Cadets from Atlantic Region will join other Sea Cadets from across the country to sail aboard two tall ships out of Victoria, BC.
Cadets will sail aboard one of two ships, Pacific Grace or Pacific Swift owned and operated by S.A.L.T.S. https://www.salts.ca/ During the deployment, cadets are involved in every part of shipboard operations (helm, lookout, husbandry, meal preparation, seamanship, navigation, safety, etc.) and sailing evolutions (hoisting, lowering, furling and unfurling sails, on deck and aloft in the rigging, etc.). In order to be eligible to participate in this deployment, a cadet must meet or exceed the following prerequisites: · Be 15-17 years of age at the time of the deployment; · have successfully completed Phase 3 of the corps training program; · hold the minimum rank of PO2; · fluent in English; · overall incentive level bronze for the candidate’s age group successfully completed by the application deadline; · free of any medical participation limitations; and · not on any dietary restrictions or modifications, as they will not be accommodated; If you're interested, please let the Trg O know by NLT 5 Dec 17 Another great opportunity for our cadets to apply for is coming up!
Are you interested in going on a Seamanship Deployment in the Pacific Region? During these deployments, senior Sea Cadets from across the country are actively engaged and are offered a relevant and credible at-sea naval opportunity aboard ORCA class Patrol Craft Training (PCT) vessels. The dates available for this great opportunity are: 10-17 Mar 2018 (14 English-speaking cadets) 17-25 Mar 2018 (16 English and 3 French-speaking cadets) Eligibility Criteria. Ski Trip Nelson is going skiing at Ski Martock to facilitate complementary training. We are covering the transportation to the hill, equipment rental, ski lessons, and lunch. Here's the details: Date: 18 Feb 18 Time: 1000 - 1930 Drop off/pick up: HMCS Scotian Lunch: provided Dress: ski gear I need you to let me know if you plan on coming. I know this is a fair bit away, but I need to confirm numbers and have some documentation signed by your parents/guardians. Please you cannot back out two weeks prior to the trip. TS Royalist Deployment This year's deployment will have the cadets join the ship in Plymouth, UK and sail out of the English Channel into the Irish Sea making its way to Holyhead, UK on the North Wales coast making a number of ports of call along the way. During the deployment, cadets are involved in every part of shipboard operations (helm, lookout, husbandry, meal preperation, seamanship, navigation, safety, etc.) and sailing evolutions (hoisting, lowering, furling and unfurling sails, on deck and aloft in the rigging, etc.) in a 24/7 watch system. Cadets will also be climbing masts using harness type safety gear. Accommodation and messing is basic and based on an open mess deck plan where Cadets sleep in individual racks with sleeping bags and have extremely limited storage space. What do you need to participate? In order to be eligible to participate in this deployment, a cadet must meet or exceed the following prerequisites: - has attained 16 years of age as of the 1 Apr 18 and must not reach 18 years before 20 May 18; - have successfully completed Phase IV of the corps training program; - hold the minimum rank of PO2; - have completed an intermediate, advanced or specialty summer training course (6 or 8 week); - fluent in English; - free of any medical participation limitations; and - not on any dietary restrictions or modifications, as they will not be accommodated. Christmas Carolling We're going Christmas Carolling at the Parkland Seniors Home on 20 Dec 17 at 7 p.m. We're looking for volunteers for this event. If you're interested, please see the XO. 100th Anniversary of the Halifax Explosion Parade In light of it being the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion, we’ve been invited to participate in a parade to commemorate the various firefighters who answered the call that faithful morning. However, this parade takes place Wednesday, December 6 at 1030 in the morning. So, this event would require missing some school. You are under no obligation to participate. The CO will write or call your school to confirm this information. If you’d like to participate, and have your parents/guardians permission, please let the Trg O know by NLT Nov 30. 2501 RCACC Dance We've got a chance to go dance the night away with some of your fellow cadets from 2501 RCAC. This event is only for our cadets (NO GUESTS) and the details are on the poster attached.
